Loosely based on the 1995 novel of the same name, tickets to see the musical Wicked guarantee a magical night of entertainment for the entire family.
The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West has been amazing audiences since 2003. With three Tony awards under its belt and sold-out shows at the Gershwin Theater, Wicked promises to be going strong for years to come. Wicked premiered on Broadway at the Gershwin Theatre in October 2003, and its popularity bloomed due to excellent word of mouth and critical acclaim.
Wicked, The Musical follows the story written by Gregory Maquire, which lends heavily from beloved 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz. Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, with emerald-green skin, is roommates with Glinda, the future Good Witch at college. Their hesitant friendship grows as they get to know each other, through love interests, work and the Emerald City. As time passes, their place in society, their choices and their interests pull them apart.
The original 2003 Broadway cast consisted of Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, ichelle Federer as Nessarose, Elphaba's sister and Norbert Leo Butz as Fivero, Elphaba's love interest. The musical won three 2004 Tony Awards, including Best Actress Idina Menzel, Best Costumer Designer, Susan Hilferty and Scenic Designer, Eugene Lee. The cast recording of the music received the Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album in 2005.
The musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. With musical staging by Tony Award winner Wayne Cilento, Wicked is directed by Tony winner Joe Mantello.
As popular as Wicked was and is with the critics, it is even more popular with audiences. Within it's first year Wicked tickets grossed more than $56 million and has been playing to capacity crowds for every recent performance.
Wicked proves to be the musical for the future, with tours across the U.S. and internationally and with two permanent placements in New York City, at the Gershwin Theatre, and in Chicago. Wicked tickets will continue to electrify audiences with access to the majesty, the splendor, and the music.
